ARMA conference - announcing our attendance

by Stephanie Taylor, Senior Consultant - Digital Preservation

I’m delighted to be attending the ARMA conference this year. I’ll be there from Tuesday 6th – Wednesday 7th June, and I’m really looking forward to representing our Digital Preservation team

The team has been providing open courses in digital preservation for over ten years, first under University of London Computing Centre (ULCC) and now under CoSector, University of London. We also offer bespoke, in-house training courses and consultancy services, and have very recently launched a new programme of short, online training courses, aimed at people just starting out with digital preservation.

I’m especially excited to be able to share our work with people working in research management, as my own background is in institutional repositories and latterly research data management. Having worked on various related projects, including the Repositories Support Project, my first interest in digital preservation was very much from an interest sparked by ‘what happens next’ for research publications and research data once they are no longer viewed as current.

In the interim, there has been a lot of interest and activity in the area of digital preservation from an RDM perspective. Having recently taught one of our new face-to-face courses, ‘An Introduction to Digital Preservation Planning for Research Managers’, it was great to see the enthusiasm and interest among the RDM community for information on digital preservation. I hope to talk to many more people at the conference, so if you are going along, please do call by our stand.

We will be sharing the stand with Arkivum, who, like us, have a long-standing interest in digital preservation and expertise in supporting the preservation of data. I think both Arkivum and our own team are focused first on the practical, and encouraging and enabling organisations and individuals to engage with digital preservation in ways that work for them. If you have any interests, hopes, dreams, or even blind panic about digital preservation and your own work, do come and chat to us.

We’ll do our best to offer help, solutions and advice to get you started or help you develop your existing work in this area.

Update Regarding Digitisation – from Project Management to Access Course, Jan 2017

The CoSector Digital Preservation team has unfortunately had to reschedule the upcoming Digitisation course which was slated to be held on 17th Jan 2017. The course will now be held in March 2017 instead.

We would like to apologise to all those who were interested in attending this month and we hope you can still attend in March.

Please keep an eye on the News section and follow us on Twitter for further announcements.
